Mick Conneely Snr. was born in Errislannan near Clifden in North Connemara Co. Galway. Like many other musicians of his time he was forced to emigrate to Britain in the late 1950s. After spending some time in Newport in Wales he moved to Bedford in England where he married raised a family and worked for the greater part of his life. A truly great fiddler Mick Snr. quickly became the central figure of traditional music in Bedford and the surrounding area. Traditional music was equally central to both social and family life. All his children are accomplished musicians, his daughters Bernie,Cathleen and Pauline and his son Mick Jnr. Since retiring Mick Snr. has returned to his native Connemara.
His son Mick Jnr. As well as learning from his father also took lessons from the legendary Clare musician and teacher Brendan Mulkere. Mick Jnr. Is now established as one of the leading and most respected fiddlers in the tradition while also being a very accomplished bouzuoki player. Mick has had a colourful and highly successful musical career both as a solo artist and in collaborations with Kevin Crawford, De Dannan and more recently with accordion player Dave Munnelly.
Listening to the two Micks is a wonderful experience. Hand in glove springs to mind.
