Doireann hails from Clontarf on the north side of Dublin city. It was here she was introduced to traditional music which she learnt from her father at home. The rich traditional music of the Dublin city greatly influenced her style and she was fortunate enough to be exposed to this from a young age. Although firmly rooted in the Dublin tradition, she has a strong connection with her maternal home in the Muskerry Gaeltacht, Cuil Aodha. She has a keen interest in the Irish language and the traditional songs of that area and draws heavily on that tradition in both her fiddle playing and singing.
